This app, Firearm Competency Test SA (Google Play package za.co.fctsa.firearms), is published by First Class Tests SA ("we", "us"). For the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), we are the responsible party for the limited processing described below. This policy explains what happens to information when you use the app.
The app does not collect or ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, precise (GPS) location, or an advertising identifier. We do not build a behavioural profile of you and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
When you buy the one-time unlock, or when the app checks for updates, a small amount of information is handled by the service providers we rely on. We do not operate our own servers.
(a) Your purchase — Google Play Billing and RevenueCat. If you purchase the full unlock:
(b) App updates — Expo. When the app starts, it checks for content updates. This request necessarily includes your device's IP address, along with the platform, the app's runtime version, the update channel, the current update identifier, and a user-agent string, sent to Expo's servers. This is used only to deliver the correct update to your device.
Your study progress, quiz results, and unlock status are stored only on your device. They are not transmitted to us. Uninstalling the app removes this on-device data.
We process the limited information above to provide the app, to process your purchase and unlock the paid content, to deliver updates, and to meet legal obligations. Under POPIA, our lawful bases are the performance of our agreement with you (providing and unlocking the app) and our legitimate interest in operating, maintaining, and improving the app.
We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. The information described above is processed only by the service providers named in this policy — Google, RevenueCat, and Expo — acting as our operators or as independent controllers under their own privacy terms:
These providers operate servers outside South Africa, including in the United States. Your information may therefore be processed in other countries. We rely on the safeguards these providers maintain, consistent with the requirements of POPIA for cross-border processing.
On-device data persists until you uninstall the app. Purchase and entitlement records are retained by Google and RevenueCat under their own policies for as long as needed to support your purchase and to meet legal and accounting obligations.
We reduce risk by minimising the information involved and by relying on the security measures of Google Play, RevenueCat, and Expo. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
This app is intended for adults (18+) preparing for a statutory firearm competency assessment. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly process the personal information of children.
Under POPIA you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to object to its processing, and to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa. Because we do not hold information that directly identifies you, requests concerning purchase records may need to be directed to Google or RevenueCat; contact us and we will assist where we can.
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above reflects the latest version. Material changes will be reflected here or within the app.
